Conclusion - Compact mini PC with high efficiency and AI power
The Sapphire Edge AI presents itself in our review as an extremely compact and powerful mini PC, which impresses above all with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The combination of modern Zen 5 architecture, fast Radeon 890M graphics, and a powerful NPU makes the system versatile - from productive work to local AI applications. The energy efficiency is pleasingly good. Thanks to USB4, external GPUs can be used, which gives the device additional flexibility.
Less convincing is the material quality of the case, which cannot quite keep up with higher-quality competitor models from Geekom or Minisforum. The compact cooling system ensures stable performance and works quieter than many other mini-PCs with the same CPU configuration. The Sapphire Edge AI delivers a well-rounded overall performance and is ideal for users who are looking for a small, modern, and AI-capable system that is convincing in everyday life as well as in productive applications.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
According to the manufacturer, the Sapphire Edge AI will be offered at a MSRP of 749 euros (~$865).
Sapphire is primarily known to many as a manufacturer of desktop graphics cards. With the Edge AI, the manufacturer is making its comeback in the competitive mini PC market after a long break. Sapphire will offer the Edge AI in three different CPU variants and exclusively as a barebone option: with the Ryzen AI 5 340 (519 euros, (~$599)), Ryzen AI 7 350 (629 euros, (~$726)) and the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (749 euros, (~$865)). The latter will accompany us through this test and will have to compete against rivals from Minisforum, Geekom, Asus, and GMKtec.
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
The Sapphire Edge AI has a very compact case that looks very high-quality thanks to its black and gold color scheme. Haptically, however, the Sapphire Edge AI cannot keep up with the high-quality metal chassis of competitors such as the Geekom. Sapphire relies on a cleanly processed plastic chassis, which is also reflected in the low weight.
Its good overall appearance can be seen in the connections. The Sapphire Edge AI offers a comprehensive range of ports including two USB4 ports. HDMI 2.1 is a modern display connection, which is also available in a double pack. However, you still have to do without OCuLink or USB4-v2.

Accessories
The scope of delivery includes a 120-watt power supply unit, an HDMI cable, a VESA mount and a compact manual with information on the connections and upgrade options.
Maintenance
Upgrades are child's play thanks to the magnetic top cover. The RAM and mass storage can be easily accessed and installed. However, if you want to access the fan on the underside, you have to dismantle the device.
Sustainability
The Sapphire Edge AI only offers limited ease of repair. For the warranty, the manufacturer refers to the original place of purchase or dealer, which is the first point of contact for the end customer. Further details regarding sustainability are currently not mentioned on the product page.
Test conditions
All tests were carried out in standard mode as delivered. A performance and silent mode are also available in the BIOS.
Processor
In the Sapphire Edge AI comes the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is used - a 12-core Zen 5 architecture chip that delivers impressive performance in single and multi-core applications. In factory settings, the SoC operates with a continuous power consumption of 35 watts and thus delivers performance that is on a par with the competition. Although various performance profiles can be selected in the BIOS, the differences are hardly noticeable in everyday use, even if they are measurable.

Cinebench R15 Multi Loop
The Cinebench R15 endurance test clearly shows that the Sapphire Edge AI is a well-tuned system. The performance of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 remains stable even under continuous load and is quite cool despite the compact design and the comparatively small cooling unit.
System performance
The Sapphire Edge AI with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 delivers powerful everyday computing performance and a very smooth user experience, supported by fast DDR5 RAM and a PCIe SSD. The integrated NPU provides noticeable advantages for local AI tasks.

Storage Devices
The Sapphire Edge AI is generally sold without mass storage, so the choice of storage medium is up to the buyer. The test device provided to us is equipped with an SSD from Kingston, which delivers solid everyday performance. The stable performance under load, which is ensured by the passive cooling on the top of the housing, should be emphasized. The device itself offers space for two mass storage devices.

Graphics card and gaming performance
The Sapphire Edge AI delivers strong iGPU performance with the integrated AMD Radeon 890M. The device achieves good results in synthetic benchmarks and ranks in the midfield. The conservative power limit of 35 watts has a significant influence on the 3D performance. The iGPU also confirms its high performance in practical gaming tests. Against the currently fastest integrated graphics, the AMD Radeon 8060S (e.g. in the Bosgame M5 or GMKtec EVO-X2), however, the Radeon 890M cannot keep up.

Sapphire Edge AI performance check with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 via USB4
Sapphire equips the Edge AI with two USB4 ports, which are suitable for the use of external graphics cards, among other things. In combination with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, the 3D performance can be significantly increased. However, the bandwidth limitation of the PCIe connection must be taken into account.

Emissions
System noise
The Sapphire Edge AI relies on a compact cooling system. In intensive scenarios, we measured around 41 dB(A), which is quieter than many other mini PCs. Minisforum shows with the UM890 Pro shows that it can do even better. The fan in our test sample does not work under load, which means that operation is almost silent. Minimally measurable electronic noises in idle mode ensure the results, which are slightly above the base value.

Temperature
The case of the Sapphire Edge AI remains inconspicuous both in idle mode and under load. The top heats up slightly more than other areas due to the passive SSD connection. In the stress test, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 briefly reaches around 75 C, but this is not critical. The telemetry data shows that the cooling system can easily maintain the permanently applied 35-watt TDP.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 45 °C / 113 F, compared to the average of 36.1 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 43 °C / 109 F, compared to the average of 36.6 °C / 98 F
(±) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 32.7 °C / 91 F, compared to the device average of 32.5 °C / 91 F.
(-) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 40.8 °C / 105 F, compared to the average of 32.5 °C / 91 F for the class Mini PC.
Energy management
In the test, the Sapphire Edge AI with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 proves to be extremely energy-efficient compared to the other comparison devices in this test. Even in idle mode, the power consumption remains very low. Under full load, we measured up to 74 watts, although the system only operates at 57.5 watts under average load. The included 120 watt power supply unit is more than sufficient for this.
