Verdict: Powerful Strix Point mini PC with OCuLink and high efficiency
The Peladn HO5 presents itself in the test as a powerful mini PC that convincingly utilizes the potential of the Strix Point platform. With the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the compact system offers very high CPU performance for productive tasks and demanding multi-threaded applications. The integrated Radeon 890M also delivers strong iGPU performance, enabling even moderate gaming in customized settings. Efficiency and temperatures are at a good level, even if the fan control could use some fine-tuning acoustically. The OCuLink interface further expands the range of applications, while the soldered RAM limits the upgradeability.
Peladn doesn't make any major mistakes with the HO5, making the mini PC a serious alternative to well-known brands such as Minisforum or Geekom. In terms of price, the HO5 doesn't break the bank at around 900 euros in the current comparison. Some competitors with the same CPU equipment are considerably pricier and rarely available for around $1,000.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
Peladn sells its devices via its store. Meanwhile, the HO5 is offered there for around $1,000. It is also shipped from their warehouse in the US, and there are no additional costs. The device can also be ordered via Amazon (currently $919).
With the Peladn HO5, Peladn is launching a particularly powerful mini PC on the market, which offers a strong price-performance ratio in the price range below 1,000 euros and puts established competitors under noticeable pressure. The system is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 of the Strix Point generation - a modern processor with 12 cores and 24 threads that combines high computing power with an integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics unit.
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
The Peladn HO5 is based on a simple plastic housing with compact dimensions, which is designed to be as lightweight as possible and suitable for everyday use. Discreet RGB lighting adds visual interest to the design on the top. The integrated touch surface on the top is practical: the lighting effects can be controlled directly on the device via the centrally positioned module, without any additional software.
Most of the connections are spread across the front and rear and cover typical office and multimedia requirements with ease. Particularly noteworthy is the integrated OCuLink interface (on the side), which enables the connection of external graphics card solutions and gives the Mini-PC significantly more flexibility for graphics-intensive applications. The HO5 also boasts a modern network connection: With 2.5 Gigabit LAN and fast WLAN, the compact computer is ideally equipped for high data rates and demanding network environments.

Maintenance
The Peladn HO5 is only available with a pre-installed SSD and soldered RAM. However, an additional slot for further mass storage is available. The top can be removed without tools and allows quick access to the components. The underside must be removed to access the CPU fan.
Sustainability
The manufacturer does not provide any specific information on sustainability aspects in the production of the Peladn HO5. The packaging consists mainly of cardboard and is only supplemented by a few foam elements to protect the device during transportation.
Test conditions
The benchmarks of the Peladn HO5 were carried out with the factory default settings. The SoC operates with a permanent TDP of 54 watts and the integrated graphics unit is assigned 2 GB of RAM ex works. The BIOS offers additional options to adjust the performance parameters of the processor and the integrated graphics unit.
Processor
The Peladn HO5 uses the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 a 12-core processor based on the Zen 5 architecture, which consistently offers very high computing power. This clearly places the HO5 in the performance-oriented mini PC segment and clearly differentiates it from pure office solutions. Compared to other systems with the same processor, our test device delivers almost identical performance and is on a par. Compared to Intel-based competitors, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is competitive and can easily compete with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H without any problems.

System performance
In everyday use, the Peladn HO5 presents itself with a very high overall performance and a consistently responsive performance. The advantages of the LPDDR5 RAM connected at 7,500 MT/s become particularly clear in the AIDA64 measurements, where the HO5 achieves strong results. Only systems based on Strix Halo such as the Bosgame M5 achieve even higher values here.

Storage devices
The Crucial P3 Plus with 1 TB storage capacity is used in the Peladn HO5. In the test, the SSD achieves high transfer rates and ensures short loading times, but is on a par with typical PCIe 4.0 models in terms of performance.
The Crucial P3 Plus uses QLC NAND and does not have a separate DRAM cache. In normal everyday operation, this is hardly noticeable, but slight fluctuations in performance can occur under sustained high load. However, the performance remains constant in the stress test thanks to cooling via the housing cover. The HO5 also allows an additional M.2 data carrier to be installed and the memory to be expanded flexibly.

Graphics card and gaming performance
The Peladn HO5 is equipped with the integrated AMD Radeon 890M and therefore delivers very strong iGPU performance. The system achieves high scores in synthetic benchmarks and is positioned in the upper performance range of current Strix Point devices. At the same time, the AMD Radeon 890M is on a par with the Intel Arc Graphics 140T.
In the practical gaming tests, the Radeon 890M confirms its performance and enables smooth gaming in adjusted settings. Against the currently most powerful integrated graphics solution, the AMD Radeon 8060S - in Strix Halo-based systems, for example - the Radeon 890M is clearly beaten.

System noise
The measured values for noise development are positive overall and are lower than those of many comparable devices. However, completely silent operation is not achieved. The fan reacts quite spontaneously to load changes and revs up quickly, making the background noise clearly audible at times. A finer tuning of the fan curve would be desirable here.
Under full load, we measured just under 40 dB(A), which is comparatively quiet from an objective point of view. However, due to the rather high frequency characteristics, the operating noise is subjectively perceived as somewhat more present.

Temperature
The Peladn HO5 remains thermally inconspicuous and operates in uncritical temperature ranges both in idle and under load. The underside heats up a little more due to the design. We measured a maximum of 74.8 °C in the stress test and just under 84 °C in the Cinebench R15 multi-loop for a short time.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 33.6 °C / 92 F, compared to the average of 35.8 °C / 96 F, ranging from 20.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 41.8 °C / 107 F, compared to the average of 36.3 °C / 97 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 26.1 °C / 79 F, compared to the device average of 32.3 °C / 90 F.
(+) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 31.4 °C / 89 F, compared to the average of 32.3 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Energy management
In the test, the Peladn HO5 proved to be an extremely efficient system. Even in idle mode, the power consumption remains at a low level. Under full load, we measured an average of around 57 watts, while short-term load peaks can approach the 74 watt mark. The 120 watt power supply unit is sufficiently dimensioned for these performance values and offers enough reserves for short-term load peaks.
