Verdict - A quiet refresh for continuous operation
With the 2027 edition of the A5, Geekom delivers a refined, if unspectacular, upgrade to its popular mini PC. The switch to the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U benefits users primarily in terms of noise and power consumption: the system runs noticeably quieter and more efficiently than its predecessor with the Ryzen 7 5800H. The processing power of the 8 Zen 3 cores remains more than sufficient for demanding office multitasking, web applications, and light image editing. Added to this are familiar strengths such as the compact chassis, fast UHS-II card reader, and flexible expandability with up to three storage drives.
However, buyers still have to accept noticeable compromises when it comes to modern connectivity: Without USB4 or Thunderbolt, the Geekom A5 offers no way to add an external graphics card (eGPU). The integrated graphics solution also has clear limitations. While the outdated Radeon RX Vega 8 is perfectly adequate for all everyday display tasks and casual gaming, it severely holds back ambitious gamers in more modern 3D titles.
Those who absolutely need more graphics power, a more modern architecture, or faster ports do not have to look far, however. Geekom's own A8 is a more powerful alternative that, thanks to its AMD Ryzen 7 8745HS and noticeably faster Radeon 780M graphics, handles even more demanding tasks with ease.
Ultimately, the Geekom A5 (2027 Edition) nevertheless remains highly recommended: A whisper-quiet, mature, and extremely reliable workhorse for everyday modern office use that stands out with its excellent value for money.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Geekom A5 (2027 Edition) is now available directly from the manufacturer's store starting at an MSRP of $499. The mini PC is already available on Amazon, starting at $479. Potential savings: You can purchase the Geekom A5 at a lower price until December 31, 2026, by using the discount code NCA527FF. This offers a 13 percent discount when buying directly from the manufacturer, while a 10 percent discount is available on Amazon.
With the Geekom A5 (2027 Edition), the compact mini PC enters its next round. Following the predecessor with Ryzen 7 5800H, which we have already tested, the new edition faces stiff competition from rivals by GMK, Acemagic, and Ninkear. For around 550 euros, Geekom promises plenty of everyday performance – but how does the familiar chassis fare in practice, and does the continued omission of USB4 hurt?
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
Visually and to the touch, the 2027 edition of the Geekom A5 does not differ from the model with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (see the Geekom A5 review). Geekom continues to use the same chassis as the A5 and IT series – dimensions and footprint remain unchanged. The internal metal cage ensures high rigidity, while the outer plastic shell comes in the familiar rose gold finish. The build quality is impeccable, although an all-metal case would have further improved the feel. A VESA mount for mounting the device to a monitor is still included.
The ports are identical to those of its predecessor: There are six USB ports in total, two of which are Type-C. However, USB4 and Thunderbolt are still absent. Both USB-C ports support DisplayPort Alt Mode, allowing up to four displays to be driven simultaneously in combination with the two HDMI ports. The fast 2.5-Gbit LAN port and the high-performance SD card reader with UHS-II speeds remain welcome features.

Accessories
Maintenance
The Geekom A5 can be opened easily by loosening four screws on the underside, which also serves as a cooling contact for the SSD. The interior offers two SO-DIMM slots for DDR4 RAM as well as flexible storage options. A total of up to three storage drives can be installed in the device. However, further disassembly is required to clean the CPU fan.
Sustainability
Regarding sustainability, Geekom limits itself to the energy-efficient operation of the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U. No detailed carbon footprint data is available. There is also room for improvement in reducing plastic use, as plastic elements are still used in the packaging.
Test conditions
All benchmarks were run using the default “Balanced” power profile without adjustments to the SoC power in the BIOS.
Processor
Although the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U (8 cores, 16 threads) falls slightly behind the Ryzen 7 5800H in the earlier Geekom A5 in terms of performance, the 2027 Edition impresses with its significantly lower power consumption: Instead of 35–54 watts, the chip makes do with an economical 15–28 watts TDP.

System Performance
There is little to criticize about the perceived day-to-day performance: standard applications respond smoothly, and the system feels snappy. The PCMark 10 benchmarks also confirm the mini PC's good performance in office scenarios. However, measurable weaknesses emerge in the DPC latencies, which are slightly above the ideal level and can cause dropouts during real-time audio playback or recording.

Storage devices
The installed Kingston SSD with 512 GB of storage has to make do with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface, even though the SSD supports PCIe 4.0. In practice, the module delivers solid performance that does not drop even during prolonged write operations, thanks to effective passive cooling via the chassis.

Graphics Card and Gaming Performance
The integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 serves as the iGPU. Its performance is rarely sufficient for modern 3D games – some demanding titles only run smoothly at reduced resolutions (720p). However, the iGPU is more than adequate for older classics and simple casual games.

Emissions
System noise
At idle, the Geekom A5 is completely silent, as the cooling system often stops entirely. Even in the stress test, the mini PC proves extremely quiet at a maximum of 31.5 dB(A), never producing intrusive noise. The high efficiency of the AMD Ryzen 7 7730U really pays off here: Across all load scenarios, the new version runs dramatically quieter than its considerably louder predecessor with the Ryzen 7 5800H.

Temperature
The thermal measurements give no cause for criticism: In everyday use, the chassis remains pleasantly cool. Under extreme load using Prime95 and FurMark, the temperature on the top rises to a moderate 39 °C. No performance losses due to thermal throttling occurred, even during extended stress tests.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 38.5 °C / 101 F, compared to the average of 35.3 °C / 96 F, ranging from 20.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(+) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 35.4 °C / 96 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 30.6 °C / 87 F, compared to the device average of 32.1 °C / 90 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 32.7 °C / 91 F, compared to the average of 32.1 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Power management
At idle, the mini PC draws a modest 6 to 9 watts. Under maximum load, power consumption briefly rises to just under 45 watts, but settles at around 32 watts under sustained CPU load. The included 65-watt power adapter is therefore more than sufficient.
