Verdict: The Geekom IT13 Max offers high performance, fast Wi-Fi, and a 36-month warranty.

The Geekom IT13 Max makes a good overall impression in testing and scores particularly high marks for its attractive price-to-performance ratio. The Intel Core Ultra 9 185H continues to deliver high CPU performance and ensures a fast pace of work in everyday use. Added to this are the extensive selection of ports, very fast Wi-Fi, good expansion options, and low chassis temperatures. Another positive feature is the design with an internal metal cage, which effectively keeps heat away from the outer surfaces of the chassis.

The 36-month warranty is another plus and provides added peace of mind. However, the integrated Intel Arc Graphics reveal that Meteor Lake is no longer among the current top performers. While the performance is sufficient for older and less demanding games, modern titles quickly pose significant challenges for the iGPU. Newer platforms also sometimes offer better energy efficiency.

The biggest point of criticism is the fan control. Under load, the IT13 Max becomes clearly audible, while options for customizing the fan curve are lacking. Although Silent Mode helps, it also reduces performance. Overall, the Geekom IT13 Max offers a well-rounded package at an attractive price that will appeal especially to users who value high CPU performance, very fast Wi-Fi, and versatile features. Those who can tolerate the increased noise under load will get a powerful and well-equipped mini-PC with a long warranty.

Case & Connectivity

The Geekom IT13 Max’s case is based on the familiar design of the Mini-IT series but has been slightly enlarged in width and height. The combination of plastic and metal feels solid, although the surface shows fingerprints quickly. The selection of ports largely corresponds to that of the Geekom A8 Max and offers numerous USB ports, USB4, and an SD card reader. Only the two HDMI 2.0 outputs now seem somewhat outdated.

Accessories

The Geekom IT13 Max comes with a 120-watt power supply, an HDMI cable, a VESA mount with screws, and a quick start guide. The quick start guide contains information about the ports and describes how to access the upgradeable components.

Maintenance

Maintenance is straightforward. Once the bottom panel is removed, the SSD and Wi-Fi module are easily accessible. To access the cooling system, however, the mini-PC must be disassembled further.

Sustainability

Due to its compact design, the Geekom IT13 Max is not particularly easy to repair. However, with a 36-month manufacturer’s warranty, Geekom still offers clear added value compared to many competitors. The packaging is designed to save space, but no specific information is provided regarding recycled materials or sustainability initiatives.

The review configuration of the Geekom IT13 Max is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. The Meteor Lake processor features 16 cores and 22 threads and delivers high computing performance in both single-core and multi-core applications. In benchmark comparisons, the mini-PC ranks just behind the Peladn HO5, which is based on the slightly more powerful AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX370, and is equally well-suited for demanding office tasks, content creation, and multitasking.

Storage devices

The Geekom IT13 Max uses a 500 GB Kingston NV3 as its mass storage device. Although this PCIe 4.0 SSD offers less storage space than many competing models, it achieved solid transfer rates in our tests. Even under prolonged load, the SSD remains largely stable, so no significant performance drops are to be expected. In addition to the pre-installed M.2 SSD, another storage device can be added. An M.2-2242 slot with a SATA connection is available for this purpose. When upgrading, be sure to check that the drive’s form factor and interface are supported.

In our graphics benchmarks, however, the iGPU often ranks only in the lower middle of the pack, demonstrating that it can no longer keep up with the latest integrated graphics units. Emissions

System noise

A clear weakness of the Geekom IT13 Max is its fan control. While the system runs pleasantly quietly at idle, the fan revs up significantly under load and produces a clearly audible operating noise. The larger design apparently cannot be fully utilized here to effectively reduce the noise level.

The fan control seems particularly underdeveloped, as Geekom does not offer any way to customize the fan curve. No such options are available either in the BIOS or in Windows. Only Silent Mode allows for some reduction in noise, but this comes with significantly lower power limits and thus slightly reduced performance.

Temperature

The Geekom IT13 Max’s chassis heats up only moderately, both at idle and under load. A key reason for this is its design, which features an internal metal cage that effectively absorbs heat from the components while preventing the outer surfaces of the chassis from overheating. Even under prolonged load, surface temperatures thus remain at a non-critical level.

Although the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H reaches high temperatures in the stress test, it is able to maintain its sustained power consumption of around 45 watts stably over an extended period. Overall, the cooling system proves to be adequately sized, and the effective thermal decoupling of the hardware from the outer casing is particularly noteworthy.

Energy Management

In a direct comparison, the Geekom IT13 Max does not appear to be very energy-efficient. Even when idle, the mini-PC consumes 11 to 16 watts, which is not very efficient. Under load, power consumption increases accordingly, though it remains within an acceptable range for a system with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. In terms of efficiency, the IT13 Max is therefore outperformed by newer CPU generations. For power, Geekom uses a 120-watt power supply.
