Affordable mini-PC with Core Ultra 9: Geekom IT13 Max review and on sale

A mini-PC with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, 24 GB of RAM, and an attractive price sounds like a compelling overall package given the current situation. The Geekom IT13 Max certainly lives up to this first impression in our review—though not without a few surprising weaknesses. Above all, the combination of high CPU performance and an immature fan control system leads to mixed results.

When it comes to system performance, the IT13 Max really shows its strengths. The Core Ultra 9 185H is no longer among the newest processors, but it still offers plenty of computing power and ensures that this compact computer can hold its own even with more demanding tasks. At the same time, the system excels with very fast Wi-Fi and a comprehensive array of ports. The chassis temperatures also remain pleasingly low. This is ensured, in part, by the internal metal cage, which effectively keeps heat away from the actual chassis.

But this is precisely where an interesting discrepancy becomes apparent: While temperatures remain well under control, the IT13 Max is clearly audible under load. The fan control seems underdeveloped and offers hardly any options for customizing the fan curve. Anyone looking for the quietest possible mini PC is likely to find this annoying.

The integrated Intel Arc 8-Core graphics unit also fails to match the CPU’s positive performance. In current graphics benchmarks, the IT13 Max often ranks only in the lower middle of the pack. While the performance is sufficient for older and less demanding games, modern gaming applications are not among its strengths. In terms of energy efficiency, it’s also evident that the Core Ultra 9 185H is now falling moderately behind newer processors.

On the plus side, it offers an attractive price, fast Wi-Fi, a good set of features, and a 36-month warranty. Plus, it comes in various configurations, allowing the IT13 Max to be flexibly tailored to different needs.
