Verdict - Strong performance without RAM holding it back
The Vzmore AX9 Max delivers an excellent showing in our benchmark tests. The combination of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and integrated Radeon 890M impresses with high application and graphics performance. The memory configuration provides the decisive advantage over the competition: Vzmore equips the mini PC with two RAM modules out of the box, preventing the memory bottleneck that plagues comparable systems. Together with the fast Lexar SSD and the free M.2-2242 slot for storage expansion, the AX9 Max scores points for its feature set.
The V-Cooling system handles waste heat well and keeps chassis temperatures within acceptable limits. Although the initial peak power of 65 watts is reduced to a constant 54 watts under sustained load, performance remains stable over time.
The Geekom A9 Max and the Minisforum AI X1 Pro are direct alternatives. However, anyone choosing these competitors must either accept reduced graphics and system performance out of the box due to their single-channel memory configurations or install a second RAM module themselves.
However, a reliable assessment of noise levels is not currently possible: Since the fan in our review unit produced audible vibrations, we will provide comprehensive acoustic measurements only after receiving a fault-free replacement unit.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Vzmore AX9 Max packs AMD's Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 into a compact chassis and challenges direct competitors such as the Geekom A9 Max. Both share the same motherboard platform, but Vzmore uses an innovative V-Cooling system with a vapor chamber. While many comparable mini PCs in this performance class get quite loud under full load, the AX9 Max promises a sustained 65 watts with low noise levels.
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
The silver case of the Vzmore AX9 Max makes a very premium impression. Vzmore uses anodized aluminum with a matte, slightly textured surface that feels pleasant to the touch and resists fingerprints. With the same footprint, the mini PC is slightly taller than the Geekom A9 Max. Weighing around 800 grams, the AX9 Max is not exactly a featherweight, but it still takes up very little space on the desk. The build quality impresses across the board: the chassis feels like a single solid piece, with nothing flexing or creaking under pressure.
The front offers four easily accessible USB-A ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and the power button. The rear houses two full-featured USB4 ports, HDMI, DisplayPort, and two fast 2.5G Ethernet ports. Maintenance is straightforward as usual: removing four screws on the underside of the case provides direct access to the two SO-DIMM slots for RAM and two M.2 NVMe slots. Wi-Fi 6E is built in for wireless connectivity. Paired with our reference router, the AX9 Max achieves excellent and consistently stable transfer rates.
The fact that Vzmore includes no fewer than four USB-A ports on the front but omits a USB-C port entirely is a noticeable drawback in everyday use. The close relationship with the Geekom A9 Max becomes particularly apparent here: since both mini PCs are built around the same motherboard design, the Vzmore AX9 Max not only inherits the structural layout advantages but also, unfortunately, carries over this connectivity oversight from the Geekom model unchanged.

Wi-Fi Performance
Accessories
In addition to the 120-watt power adapter and an HDMI cable, Vzmore includes a VESA mounting plate and a compact manual that provides useful information on port assignments and future hardware upgrades.
Maintenance
Since the mini PC comes ready to use with RAM and an SSD, there is no need to install these components beforehand. Upgrades to the RAM, storage, or Wi-Fi module are possible, but opening the case requires some patience. The screws for removing the bottom cover are hidden under the rubber covers.
Sustainability
Due to its design, more extensive maintenance and repairs are difficult, though this is somewhat offset by a three-year warranty.
Test conditions
The tests were conducted in normal mode by default. The BIOS also offers two additional fan profiles: Performance mode and Silent mode.
Processor
At its heart, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 powers the Vzmore AX9 Max and delivers consistently excellent application and multi-core performance. The mini PC completes all benchmarks without fault. In practice, however, there is no measurable performance leap over the familiar Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 – both APUs perform largely on par across the benchmark suite. Unlike some competitors with single-channel memory, the dual-channel configuration prevents an unnecessary memory bottleneck. This allows the CPU cores to deliver their full performance even in demanding multi-threaded applications.
During testing, however, the power limit reveals the familiar constraints of compact systems: the targeted sustained power level of 65 watts is not reached. A brief peak of up to 65 watts is followed by a steady 54 watts under sustained load. While the AX9 Max operates within the same thermal range as its competitors, its cooling system noticeably delays the point at which the maximum temperature is reached, so throttling only sets in later.

System Performance
Unlike systems such as the Geekom A9 Max or the Minisforum AI X1 Pro, which shipped with only one RAM module and consequently suffered from reduced bandwidth, Vzmore installs two memory modules from the outset. Dual-channel operation allows the APU to deliver its full performance potential even in memory-intensive tasks.

Graphics Card and Gaming Performance
The integrated AMD Radeon 890M handles graphics in the Vzmore AX9 Max. While comparable models such as the Geekom A9 Max or the Minisforum AI X1 Pro suffered from memory bottlenecks due to their single-channel configurations and sometimes fell well short of expectations in benchmarks, the AX9 Max makes use of the full bandwidth thanks to its two installed memory modules. The result is noticeably better graphics performance that fully lives up to the RDNA 3.5 iGPU's true potential.

System noise
For the cooling system, Vzmore uses the newly designed “V-Cooling” with a vapor chamber. At idle, the AX9 is pleasantly quiet and consistently silent. Under load, the fan is audible, although the perceived noise level is lower because the fan noise is not high-pitched.
Note: Due to audible and perceptible fan vibrations in our initial unit, we contacted the manufacturer; according to Vzmore, this is an isolated case. Once we receive a fault-free replacement review unit, we will recheck the noise levels and update the article.
Update regarding the replacement unit:
Good news: the issues previously noted with the internal components have been completely resolved. The fan now runs smoothly and consistently, making the entire system noticeably quieter during everyday use.

Temperature
In terms of thermals, the Vzmore AX9 Max performs well: Even under load, the case only warms up moderately. At idle, however, surface temperatures are somewhat higher in places. This is due to the semi-passive fan control, which temporarily switches the fan off completely under low system load. In the stress test, the CPU briefly reaches 90 °C, but then stabilizes at an unproblematic 84 °C. Sustained heat dissipation at 65 watts ultimately overwhelms the cooling system. The Vzmore AX9 Max, however, effortlessly maintains stable long-term operation with a power consumption of 54 watts.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 38.8 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 35.3 °C / 96 F, ranging from 20.6 to 69.5 °C for the class Mini PC.
(+) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 33.5 °C / 92 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F
(±) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 35.6 °C / 96 F, compared to the device average of 32.1 °C / 90 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 36 °C / 97 F, compared to the average of 32.1 °C / 90 F for the class Mini PC.
Power management
With the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, the Vzmore AX9 offers high processing performance with moderate overall power requirements. In efficiency comparisons, the system delivers solid results without noticeably standing out from comparable models with a Ryzen AI APU. For a mini PC in this performance class, power consumption remains impressively low: The device draws only a few watts at idle, while around 81 watts are measured under sustained load. Brief power spikes are somewhat higher at up to 98 watts, but remain well within reasonable limits for such a compact system.
