Colorful intros new MacBook Neo competitor with slim and lightweight design
Colorful has introduced an affordable laptop in China, the E14. Unlike the recently released MacBook Neo competitors, this one isn't powered by an Intel Wildcat Lake CPU. Instead, the company has decided to pack it with a Raptor Lake-H series processor.
Specifically, the 14-inch laptop features the Intel Core i5 13420H, an 8-core processor that is better equipped than most entry-level CPUs in the Wildcat Lake series, at least that's what benchmarks suggest. The iGPU, however, offers a similar level of performance as the 2-core Xe3 integrated GPU found in the Core Series 3 options.
The company has paired the processor with 16GB of RAM, but Colorful didn't share other details about the memory. However, given that this is a Raptor Lake-H system, it should have upgradeable RAM.
Design-wise, the Colorful E14 has a sleek chassis that measures 16.5mm in thickness and weighs 1.11kg (2.44lbs). To compare, the MacBook Neo, which did relatively well in our review, weighs around 1.23kg (2.7lbs) and is 12.7mm thick.
On the front, the laptop features a 14-inch display with "2.2K" resolution and 100% sRGB. Colorful says that it has a brightness rating of 300 nits, making it dimmer than the screen found on the MacBook Neo. There's a decent port configuration as well, including:

- 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1x HDMI 1.4
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C with PD
- 1x USB 2.0 Type-C
- 1x 3.5mm audio combo
Among the other highlights are 90.62% screen-to-body ratio, a decent cooling setup, and 65W fast charging support. The battery, however, has a rated capacity of 55Wh, which might not yield long runtimes compared to some recently released Wildcat Lake laptops because the Raptor Lake-H is less power-efficient.
In China, the base configuration of the Colorful E14 laptop is available with a 512GB SSD (Lexar 2TB NQ780 curr. $279.99 on Amazon), which retails for CNY 4,299, around $640. The company has a good overall presence in the global market, but it's unclear whether it will launch outside the Chinese market. There's a similarly configured laptop already available in markets outside China, the Rimbook S1, which is a little thicker and heavier than the E14.
