HP releases new 16-inch laptop with 1,100-nit OLED, 32 GB RAM and Intel Wildcat Lake

A few weeks ago, we reported that HP had updated the OmniBook 5 16-inch with Intel Panther Lake processors. Rivalling an AMD Rysen AI 400-powered equivalent (curr. $1,059 on Amazon), these Panther Lake options could be configured with the Core Ultra 7 355 or Core Ultra 9 386H. Now, HP is offering Intel Wildcat Lake alternatives with the lesser Core 5 320 or Core 7 350.
By default, the new OmniBook 5 16-inch comes in a Glacier Silver finish. Alternatively, one can configure the laptop in Starlit Blue and Sahara Silver for $20 extra. Similarly, while HP includes a Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6-capable modem as standard, it also sells an alternative boasting Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
Moreover, this new Intel Wildcat Lake generation is available with 512 GB PCIe Gen 4 or 1 TB PCIe Gen 5 SSDs and 32 GB of RAM. For some reason, HP ties the latter to a Core 5 320 processor, with the more powerful Core 7 350 capped at 16 GB of RAM. Setting that aside, the OmniBook 5 16 can also be configured with an 1800p and 120 Hz OLED display that delivers 500 nits SDR and 1,100 nits HDR peak brightness values.
Conversely, all SKUs feature identical 68 Wh batteries. At the time of writing, pricing starts at $1,199.99 with a Core 5 320, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, along with a 1200p OLED display offering 300 nits peak brightness and a 60 Hz refresh rate. For reference, this starting price makes Wildcat Lake models $200 cheaper than their Panther Lake counterparts.
However, HP’s starting Panther Lake option boasts 35% higher CPU performance in our benchmarks, courtesy of the Core Ultra 7 355. Also, the Core Ultra 7 355 contains a 75% faster iGPU than the Core 5 320, which HP complements with twice as much storage too. Meanwhile, a fully-configured Wildcat Lake model retails for $1,959 with Core 5 320 processor, 32 GB RAM, a 1 TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD, a 120 Hz OLED display and Bluetooth 6/Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.
