HP releases new budget laptop with 32 GB RAM and Intel Wildcat Lake
Earlier this week, we reported that HP was now selling the OmniBook 5 16 with Intel Wildcat Lake processors. A cheaper alternative to Intel Panther Lake-powered variants that preceded them, these Wildcat Lake variants could still be configured with up to a 1,100-nit and 120 Hz OLED display resolving at 2,880 x 1,800 pixels.
As we discussed at the time, the OmniBook 5 16 starts at $1,199 with Wildcat Lake processors. Cheaper still is the latest OmniBook 3 16, which shares the same Core 5 320 and Core 7 350 processors as its OmniBook 5 sibling to rival AMD-powered counterparts (curr. $649 on Amazon). Also, HP sells the former with the Core 5 315, a 6-core processor that only sits above the Core 3 304 and Core 3 305 in Intel's Wildcat Lake lineup.
Additionally, the latest OmniBook 3 16 contains 8 GB, 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM and a choice between 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. On top of that, the 16-inch laptop comes exclusively with a 41 Wh battery. Conversely, one can configure Bluetooth 5.4/Wi-Fi 6 or Bluetooth 6/Wi-Fi 6 modems.
Furthermore, the OmniBook 3 16 is only available with a 1200p and 300-nit IPS display possessing a mere 62.5% sRGB colour space coverage. It is worth noting that HP sells non-touch and touchscreen variants, though. Surprisingly, the latter costs $80 more than the former, despite only adding touchscreen support.
The latest OmniBook 3 16 carries an $899.99 MSRP in the US, featuring the Core 5 315 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and a Jet Black finish. However, HP has already discounted its 16-inch laptop by $500 across the board. As a result, the laptop starts at just $399.99 and rises to $1,059 with a fully configured unit.
