HP releases new 17-inch laptop with 32 GB RAM and Intel Wildcat Lake
HP continues to expand its OmniBook laptop series with new Intel Wildcat Lake-powered models. For instance, the company leverages Intel's efficient 1.8 nm architecture in the OmniBook 5 16 with up to 32 GB of RAM and a 1,100-nit OLED display. Alternatively, the company also sells the OmniBook 3 17 with the same processors, for those after an even larger laptop.
Also serving as an alternative to existing AMD Ryzen variants (curr. $459 on Amazon), the laptop contains the Core 5 315 by default with 6 cores, a 4.6 GHz boost clock and a 15 TOPS NPU. However, one can configure the Core 5 320 or Core 7 350, each with higher boost clock speeds and more capable NPUs than the Core 5 315. All three processors contain 6 CPU cores and 6 threads, though.
Additionally, HP sells the OmniBook 3 17 with a choice between 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB, 24 GB and 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM. Running in single-channel mode, HP complements this RAM with 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. Similarly, one can configure a Bluetooth 5.4/Wi-Fi 6 or Bluetooth 6.0/Wi-Fi 7-capable modem, as well as 41 Wh or 68 Wh batteries.
On top of that, HP sells four display options, starting with a 900p TN option that peaks at 250 nits and 79.5% sRGB colour space coverage. While a 1080p IPS panel is also available, this only jumps to 300 nits with 62.5% sRGB colour space coverage. For reference, both of these panels are sold in non-touch and touchscreen variants, totalling four display options.
Pricing starts at $999 in the US with a Core 5 315 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, a 41 Wh battery and a 900p display. At the time of writing. A fully configured model reaches $2,029 with the Core 7 350, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, a 68 Wh battery, a 1080p display and a Mica Silver finish. Please see HP's website for information.
