Sixunited has unveiled its first AMD Gorgon Halo-powered laptop, the AXN88B. Being an ODM, the company is more likely to license its reference design out to other consumer-facing OEMs.

In the past few weeks, we have witnessed quite a few mini PCs equipped with the powerful AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 Gorgon Halo APU. Now it appears that we will soon have laptops powered by the behemoth as well.

We have covered products from Sixunited, a Chinese company, quite a few times in the past. It seems that we are about to do so once again, with the company having introduced the AXN88B, a Gorgon Halo-powered system.

It should be noted that Sixunited typically makes reference designs for other OEMs, which means that Gorgon Halo-powered laptops are still at least a few weeks away from actually hitting shelves.

Laptops with 192 GB RAM for local LLMs on the go

The Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 APU features a 16-core, 32-thread setup consisting of full-fat Zen 5 cores. Compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen AI Max Plus 395, the new Gorgon Halo APU features higher boost clocks for the CPU as well as the GPU. The APU can now also be equipped with up to 192 GB of 8533 MT/s RAM.

We don't have a whole lot of benchmarks to go by, but leaked Passmark results do indicate that the chip should be around 5% faster than the Strix Halo part. The Radeon 8065S iGPU should be a bit more powerful than the Radeon 8060S iGPU as well, both featuring a 40 CU setup based on RDNA 3.5, promising synthetic performance that is in the same league as an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.

AMD Gorgon Helio-powered laptops will be available with up to a whopping 192 GB of RAM.

The rest of the features of the laptop include a 16-inch 2560 x 1600 display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and support for the P3 color gamut. Exact details of the panel remain unclear as of this writing, with more information likely to arrive in the future.

A healthy array of I/O should be on offer, detailed below:

  • Dual USB 4 Type-C ports
  • Single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port
  • UHS-II SD card reader
  • HDMI 2.1
  • 2.5G Ethernet

Finally, the laptop features dual 2 W speakers, a full-size keyboard with RGB backlighting, fingerprint recognition support, a 2 MP IR front camera, and an 85 Wh battery. Pricing details are unclear, and the same applies to the exact launch time frame.

As we mentioned earlier, Sixunited is an ODM, which stands for original design manufacturer. They license designs to other OEMs, who then produce consumer-facing products. Therefore, final specs and features are subject to change.
