Deal | AMD Ryzen 9-equipped laptop with 32 GB RAM rocks $500 discount, 120 Hz display

Folks on the lookout for a well-equipped laptop have likely been busy browsing Labor Day deals. For such people, the Acer Swift Go 16 can be a solid choice, currently available with a massive $500 discount on Best Buy, bringing its price down to just $999.

This specific variant of the laptop comes equipped with a 16-inch IPS display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a powerful AMD Ryzen 9 APU paired with a generous 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM (non-upgradeable), and a 1 TB SSD (Samsung 990 Pro currently $240 on Amazon).

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 CPU powering the laptop sports a 10-core setup consisting of four full-fat Zen 5 cores, and six efficiency Zen 5c cores. In multithreaded benchmarks, the APU should be able to keep up with the Core Ultra X9 388 chip found in much pricier laptops, and simply blows the Core Ultra 7 355 out of the water by as much as 50%.

The Radeon 880M iGPU is no slouch either, and should be able to match the rather old Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile GPU in raw performance. In other words, lightweight workloads such as casual video editing, low-end gaming, should be easily doable on the laptop.

Of course, cooling will play an important role in determining real-world performance. According to our in-depth review of a lower-specced variant, the Swift Go 16 laptop performed admirably in our sustained benchmarks tests. In fact, we did not have any major performance related woes at all, and were quite impressed with the system.

That said, our review unit was equipped with a far superior 2.8K OLED panel, while the variant on sale boasts only an IPS one, with an inferior resolution of 1920 x 1200. For most daily workloads and casual content consumption, the 120 Hz IPS panel should be perfectly inoffensive.

In fact, Tom's Hardware found that the laptop's display peaks out at 336 nits, and boasts 121% coverage of the sRGB color gamut. However, they did discover a major downside to a lower-specced variant of this laptop, which suffered from comparatively poor SSD speeds. This should not make a huge difference in day to day performance, unless someone's workloads require massive transfers on a regular basis.

All told, the Acer Swift Go 16 laptop offers a compelling package at a digestible price point, especially at currently discounted price.
