Unistellar Envision: Augmented-reality binoculars launch for $1,499

Unistellar's Envision AR binoculars are now entering the market. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Unistellar announced production and availability details for the binoculars, which use augmented reality to overlay additional data onto the optical view. According to the company, more than 5,000 units will also be distributed to Kickstarter backers.

We tested the binoculars at a preview event in Berlin several weeks ago. The presentation is simple, but the information displayed could prove useful. For example, an outline of the surrounding mountains helped identify them. This was naturally less useful in Berlin, where there are few elevations that could reasonably be called mountains. One example is Teufelsberg.

According to Unistellar, the binoculars' app already includes 1,000 celestial objects, 10,000 stars and one million terrestrial locations and landmarks. However, the binoculars are not really designed for use in cities. Their sensors are highly sensitive to metal structures, so buildings, railings and similar objects can interfere with the system. This makes regular recalibration necessary, although the process is quick.

The binoculars are therefore better suited to open areas, such as hiking trails outside cities. They appear particularly promising for observing the night sky, although we were unable to test this feature. The binoculars can help users locate stars and constellations. Unistellar also indicated that software updates could expand their capabilities, but did not provide any specific details.

The binoculars can be pre-ordered directly from Unistellar for $1,499. At the time of publication, the system listed availability for November 2026, so there is already a wait. Unistellar explicitly states in its press release that only a limited number of units can be delivered before Christmas.
