Mudita plans e-ink app platform for optimized apps

Mudita plans to create a platform for dedicated e-paper apps. These apps will be adapted to both the advantages and the limitations of displays such as those made by E Ink. Mudita calls them Inkapps.
MuditaOS K 2.0 will provide the foundation and is scheduled for fall 2026. When asked for a more specific timeframe, Mudita said the update will probably arrive in November. It will be the first major update for the Mudita Kompakt, one of the smallest smartphones available.
The first Inkapps are intended for the Mudita Kompakt, but the company has broader plans. Mudita explicitly wants to open the platform to competitors rather than limit it to its own smartphone. It could also support tablets and e-readers, and discussions with other companies are reportedly already underway.
Inkapps are selected apps that are optimized for the display and can be installed directly.
The new operating system will introduce other changes as well, including Google Calendar synchronization. Managing Google apps will also become easier if an app is not yet available as an Inkapp. Another addition is Offline+ mode, which allows features such as Bluetooth and the camera to remain active and provides more granular controls.
The interface will also offer more customization options. With version 2.0, Mudita plans to add further personalization features and new wallpapers designed to suit the display technology.
