The Duskbloods release date in doubt after Switch 2 game skips Nintendo Direct

Fans hoped that after the August network test, the September Nintendo Direct would confirm The Duskbloods release date. Unfortunately, the multiplayer Switch 2 exclusive was a no-show at the event. Now, some followers worry the title won’t surface in 2026 at all.
The FromSoftware project debuted during the April 2025 Nintendo Direct, with a 2026 launch window. Shrouded in mystery, it finally returned for a June 2026 broadcast, which announced The Duskbloods network test. Since the Switch 2 game isn't available on other systems, the September spectacle was a likely time for an essential update.
More time needed for optimization?
It’s possible the studio could reveal new information without the gaming giant’s involvement. Still, the playtest raised concerns about a potential delay in The Duskbloods release date. It got off to a rocky start on August 21st, when server issues forced a brief postponement.
Once the developers sorted the backend problems, combatants experienced mixed performance. Although not universally reported, frame rate drops were common. Even more worrying, input lag made attacking and defending frustrating. That said, FromSoftware have an opportunity to optimize the visuals and controls before missing its 2026 goal.
Prior to the network test, a hands-on preview from The Guardian seemed to leak a release date. The article cited September 24th as when the final build would arrive. Sadly, the author was mistaken, prompting a correction. Nintendo also informed Eurogamer that the claim wasn’t accurate.
Unanswered questions
The recent Nintendo Directs shared the ship date for the Ocarina of Time remake and clarified the rest of the console’s 2026 calendar. Yet the platform-exclusive The Duskbloods still lacks pre-order details, pricing, and more precise launch timing.
For now, the eShop continues to list 2026 as the target for the digital version of the Switch 2 game. Nevertheless, that doesn’t provide much comfort to anxious buyers.
