FromSoftware rejected a PS5 Bloodborne remake from Bluepoint Games, not Sony PlayStation

The Bluepoint Games closure likely eliminated any chance of a Bloodborne remake in the near future. While gamers roasted Sony for shutting down the studio, a new report suggests another company is to blame. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg reports that FromSoftware, the creator of the original PS4 game, blocked a remake pitch in early 2025.
Readers of the Bloomberg article gain a better understanding of the events leading to Bluepoint’s demise. PlayStation acquired the development house in 2021, not long after it modernized Demon's Souls. Bluepoint helped produce God of War Ragnarok, but then struggled with other projects. Failing to accommodate a live-service push, a God of War multiplayer game was cancelled in 2025.
Employees felt the company was better suited to single-player action titles. After previously proposing a Bloodborne remake, it again lobbied to revisit the soulslike game. Sony was receptive to the idea, but Schreier reveals, “FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen, according to people familiar with the process.”
Where do Bloodborne diehards go from here?
The latest revelations won’t be any comfort to frustrated followers. For years, they have dreamed of a PS5 game that would address the 30fps cap of the PS4 title. PC-compatible emulators like shadPS4 have given a glimpse of how Bloodborne could benefit from current-gen hardware.
Sony also faced condemnation for filing DMCA notices for fan-made iterations. Most recently, news broke that it pursued a creator who invented a Diablo-inspired tribute. Nevertheless, gamers may have a version from the talented Bluepoint Games if FromSoftware hadn’t interfered.
It’s unclear why the makers of Demon’s Souls and Elden Ring wouldn’t approve the project. The Bloomberg report cites an interview with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida. Apparently, FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki preferred to remake Bloodborne himself, but lacked the time. Despite Sony now owning the rights to the franchise, it may hesitate to act without his blessing.
