Sony shut down Bloodborne remake fan project before scrutinized Bluepoint Games closure

Chances of a Bloodborne remake or remaster look bleak after Sony axed Bluepoint Games. Having produced the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls in 2020, the studio was the top candidate to modernize the gothic action RPG. Adding to gamers' frustration, news has broken that Sony earlier shut down a fan-made Bloodborne remake.
Unique takes on Bloodborne gameplay
Following the Bluepoint Games news, developer Maxime Foulquier updated followers about his tribute to the PS4 game. In November 2024, he unveiled Bloodborne: Top Down Arena, a Diablo-inspired spin on the IP. Unfortunately, in March 2025, he received a letter from Sony, warning about trademark violations.
Foulquier chose to cease work on the title and use its assets for a new project. As a 2024 GameSpot article explains, he had earlier halted creation of another Bloodborne remake. The fan believed that Top Down Arena was less likely to be targeted with a cease-and-desist notice. Obviously, that was not the case.
When the gaming giant contacted Foulquier, it raised his hopes for an official PS5 or PS6 game. Sadly, the Bluepoint closure has cast doubt on that scenario. The developer had resolved to stay silent, but, angered by the announcement, has now shared the letter.
Bloodborne remaster efforts continue
Desperate players have been calling for a new release that unlocks the PS4’s 30fps cap. Meanwhile, a missing PC port has left desktop and laptop users seeking alternatives. Fan-made efforts are one option, but these enthusiasts lack the resources that PlayStation provides.
For a more authentic experience, the shadPS4 emulator replicates the game with enhanced visuals. Gamers can finally engage in blistering combat in 60fps or more at high resolutions. On the other hand, setup can be time-consuming, while the program demands a capable PC.
Fans fear that Sony’s pivot to live-service games may put more single-player titles in jeopardy. However, Sony could task another studio with developing a Bloodborne remake. For now, its creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is unlikely to help, consumed with work at FromSoftware.
