According to a report from Bloomberg's Jason Schrier, Sony has canceled two unannounced live service projects after "a recent review." If Bloomberg is to be believed, one of them is a God of War live service title in development at Bluepoint Games that they were working on for at least a couple of years before Sony pulled the plug.
Bluepoint was in charge of creating the Demon's Souls remake, the Shadow of Colossus remaster, and The Uncharted Collection compendium for the PlayStation 4. The other big project that just got canned was being developed by Bend Studio, best known for Syphon Filter and Days Gone.
Sony has not confirmed whether this means layoffs are coming but has said it won't shut down the studios. It said it was "working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what are the next projects." It said it would do everything to "ensure there is minimal business impact."
BREAKING: PlayStation has canceled two more live-service games, from subsidiaries Bend and Bluepoint, Bloomberg has learned. Fans have long wondered what Bluepoint has been working on for the last couple of years. I can report it was a live-service God of War game. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

In 2023, Sony announced it was working on at least twelve live-service games (via The Verge) based on its popular franchises. By the end of that year, Video Games Chronicle reported the company had whittled that number down to six.
Sony kicked off 2024 with the successful launch of Helldivers 2. The game has seen its fair share of controversies but managed to address them and sell more than 12 million copies. The other live service game it launched in 2024 was Concord, which might be one of gaming's biggest flops ever. It was pulled from all online stores barely two weeks after launch.
