Sony faces massive backlash from gamers, reverses PlayStation Network account requirement for Helldivers 2
The PlayStation Network requirement for Helldivers 2 has been reversed. This change to the account sign-in policy was initially planned to come into effect with the May 6 update.
However, as per the latest announcement, the PlayStation Network account requirement "will not be moving forward." This reversal didn't come naturally, though. After the initial announcement, Sony received a huge backlash from the players.
To fill you in, Helldivers 2 on Steam has received tens of thousands of negative reviews after the publisher announced the account policy change. But the backlash from the players wasn't just limited to this title. Gamers have even spread negative reviews on other games from Sony on Steam.
Before things went downhill, Sony was very determined to implement the account linking change. The publisher has even gone ahead and made the game unpurchasable in 177 countries where the PlayStation Network wasn't available. But after seeing the widespread negative reviews, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios apologized to the players and said that they were in "talking solutions" with Sony.
Given the latest announcement, it seems that Sony did listen to the developers and may have realized how wrong the decision was. Gamers are now hoping that future releases from the publisher don't implement the change that was planned for Helldivers 2.
Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

We’re still…
I hope this is a lesson to everyone, we have power as consumers. The corpos are beholden to us, not us to them pic.twitter.com/G8Pkej6hpA
