With Project Pantheon, Wolcen Studio is returning to the action RPG genre. In 2020, the studio released Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, an action RPG that achieved commercial success but failed to resonate with many players, as shown by its mixed Metacritic ratings (User Score: 5.6, Metascore: 60). With Project Pantheon, the developers are making a fresh attempt, backed by ambitious promises.
Gameplay and story
Project Pantheon aims to deliver a groundbreaking gameplay experience by merging elements from multiple genres. It combines hack-and-slash mechanics, reminiscent of games like Diablo or Path of Exile, with features from extraction shooters such as Escape from Tarkov. But it doesn’t stop there; MOBA influences from titles like League of Legends or Dota 2 add extra layers of tactical depth. At the core of the game lies a high-stakes loot system where players explore maps in a PvPvE environment, facing threats not only from AI enemies but also from other players.
The story unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world where ancient powers have shattered once-thriving kingdoms. Players step into the role of a warrior striving to restore balance across the fractured realms. Along the way, you'll battle mystical creatures and dark forces while competing against other players pursuing similar objectives. Your decisions will significantly influence the world and shape the story’s dynamics. For a first look, check out the teaser trailer:
Registration for the closed alpha
The release date for Project Pantheon remains unknown, but with registrations for the first alpha phase only just opening, it’s likely still some time away. Interested players can sign up for the closed test phase here. The first alpha is scheduled for European players from January 25 to 26. North American players will have access from February 1 to 2. Additional closed alpha tests have already been announced for 2025. On Steam, the action RPG is now available to add to your wishlist.
