Sony shuts down Bluepoint Games five years after acquisition

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that Sony has effectively shuttered Bluepoint Games, about 5 years after acquiring it in full. Bluepoint is known for bringing the PlayStation 3 era Demon’s Souls to the PlayStation 5. Its other endeavours include Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Shadow of the Colossus, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and God of War Collection. About 70 developers have lost their jobs due to Sony’s recent business review.
Bluepoint was recently developing a live-service God of War title, but that got shut down shortly after. Sony’s decision to axe the well-revered studio is a puzzling one because there are a ton of older PlayStation titles that could do with a modern-day do-over—especially ones from the PlayStation 3 era.
Bluepoint’s shutdown effectively spells doom for a Bloodborne remake—something that fans have been clamouring for endlessly. Many speculated that it would be a PlayStation 6 launch title like Demon’s Souls and the PlayStation 5, but with Bluepoint out of the picture, even that seems unlikely. Someone like Iron Galaxy and Nixxes could still do it. though.
