The original God of War trilogy will finally see a remake

God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) were very well-received games, both scoring 94 on Metacritic and receiving numerous awards.

Despite the huge amounts of praise, one criticism fans often had about the Norse reboot was the move away from the original Greek Mythology roots, citing shifts in tone, gameplay, and characterisation.

However, Sony announced today that the 20-year-old original trilogy might finally see a remake. This should please those who enjoyed the original series Greek roots, and open the original trilogy to new audiences who don't have access to the aging hardware required to play them.

The post, which can be read on the Playstation Blog references a "remake" as opposed to a "remaster", perhaps suggesting that the games will be redesigned from the ground up, as opposed to a bit of spit and polish on the Playstation 2, and 3 versions of the game. 

While the games still hold up relatively well for a series that released between 2005 and 2010, they do show their age in places. A remake will hopefully bring the older titles up to the same standard as the Norse series.

The studio didn't share any more information beyond a teaser from TC Carson, who brought the Greek saga to life, citing that the project was "still in very early development" and that it would be a while before more information could be shared.

Nevertheless, the opportunity to revisit the original Greek series will likely have many fans excited, and we may eventually get to play them on PC for those who don't own a PlayStation 5 (available on Amazon).
