Gothic 1 Remake finally gets a release date – and a new trailer

Fans have been waiting since 2019 for an official release date for the Gothic 1 Remake. That wait is now over. On February 12, THQ Nordic unveiled a new trailer confirming that the long-anticipated remake will launch on June 5, 2026. The game will debut simultaneously on PC via Steam and GOG, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is not planned at this time.
The nearly three-minute trailer showcases cinematic sequences, updated gameplay, new combat animations, and a variety of enemy types. The core story remains unchanged: in Myrtana, prisoners are sent to work in the mines beneath a magical barrier – but the spell spirals out of control, and the isolated colony descends into chaos. Built from the ground up, the remake aims to preserve the atmosphere and spirit of the original while modernizing its technology. The developers promise a refined combat system, improved NPC behavior, more detailed quests, and expanded movement options.
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Nostalgia, excitement, and emotional reactions dominate the comments below the trailer, with many calling it a “return home.” Following the closure of Piranha Bytes, the original studio behind Gothic, the remake by Alkimia Interactive is widely viewed as a sign of hope for a revival of the legendary RPG series. Fans can already pre-order the Gothic 1 Remake on Amazon for around $60 across the platforms.
