New trailer shows promising gameplay scenes from the Gothic Remake
More than four years after the announcement of the Gothic Remake, fans finally got to see gameplay scenes in yesterday's THQ Nordic showcase on August 2. The 4:22 minute trailer, which is only available on YouTube due to an age restriction gives an introduction to the story, introduces the three camps and shows melee combat and magic scenes.
As you would expect, the remake developed in Unreal Engine 5 looks much better than its 2001 predecessor. The lighting and weather effects are particularly impressive. In the video description on YouTube, THQ Nordic points out that all the footage is taken directly from the game. Fans can take a look at the three camps and examine the enemies that will soon have to be beaten up - including orcs, goblins, minecrawlers, scavengers and snappers. The original knock-out soundtrack, which can be heard in the trailer, provides an additional nostalgic effect. At the end of the trailer, you can even see the familiar group of heroes, consisting of Lester, Diego, Milten, Gorn and our nameless hero.
As the trailer explains, the remake focuses on four central elements: the simulation of a living world, exploration, story and combat. Thanks to the daily routines of humans and creatures, the world simulation should be as realistic as you have ever seen in a game. With an approximately 15 percent larger map, there will also be more to explore. The story will largely stick to the original, but will include some new and expanded quests. Battles should be slow, tactical and exciting.
Still no release date
Unfortunately, there is still no release date for the Gothic Remake (available to pre-order here on Amazon for $60) after the THQ showcase. So far, only a release window is known, according to which the game should be released by March 31, 2025 at the latest. The next possible date for an announcement of the release date would be Gamescom 2024, which starts on August 21 in Cologne.
