AOOSTAR AG01 OCuLink eGPU dock becomes available to purchase at $149

The AOOSTAR AG01 is now available to purchase at just $149. While the name of this OCuLink eGPU dock is similar to the Ayaneo AG01, it doesn't come with a graphics card. Instead, you get the freedom to install any desktop GPU on it. Of course, it does feature a 400W built-in power supply, which you should note when choosing a graphics card.

Another good thing about the AOOSTAR AG01 is that it's not an enclosure like Razer Core X. That means you will not need to worry about a height limit while choosing a graphics card for this eGPU dock. This open nature will also allow the GPU to get unrestricted airflow, making the setup less likely to overheat.

However, as it's not an enclosure, the GPU you install on the AOOSTAR AG01 will be exposed to air, which would call for frequent cleaning. Regarding compatibility, it will work with systems with OCuLink and Lenovo's TGX interface. As there's no USB4, it won't work with devices like the Asus ROG Ally X.

Another thing to note is that unlike some of the other eGPU docks, such as the GPD G1 (available on Amazon), there aren't any ports other than the OCuLink. So, it's designed only for external graphics card docking.

Even so, the $149 price tag makes it a good option for those looking to get better gaming performance out of their systems. A closer competitor to the AOOSTAR AG01 would be the Minisforum DEG1, but it doesn't come with a built-in power supply unit.
