Insider claims Nvidia has quietly discontinued the current most popular GPU
The Nvidia RTX 3060 currently has the topmost spot on Steam's hardware survey chart. It even saw a 0.22% when compared to June, and it has been holding the first position for quite a while now. However, as per the admin of a popular Chinese tech forum called Bobatang, this graphics card has been quietly discontinued.
Nvidia has reportedly announced the end of production for the RTX 3060 GPU, and the company has even notified the add-in card partners to make their final orders. If this information holds true, the graphics card may not be as easy to access as it is now after a couple of months.
While this currently stands as nothing but a rumor, information coming out of Bobatang stood true before. For example, the forum predicted the discontinuation of the Nvidia 3060 Ti in May 2023, and the company did stop the production of the graphics card.
Getting back to the popularity of the RTX 3060, it is currently in the computers of 5.88% of the total Steam users. As for the already discontinued 3060 Ti, it is inside the machines of 3.58% of the users, and it currently has the third spot on Steam's list. So, even after it gets discontinued, the 3060 may still be in the top 10 list of Steam for a good while.
Now, although it's possible that the RTX 3060 may start to leave shelves soon, we would recommend getting the Nvidia RTX 4060 instead if you're building a new PC (PNY dual fan variant curr. $294.99 on Best Buy). It's a proper successor, and as per our benchmarks, you can smoothly play all games at max visual settings on a 1080p display. It even currently holds the fifth spot on Steam's most popular desktop GPU list.
