WIKO Hi GT Cube external GPU launches alongside Huawei MateBook GT 14 gaming laptop
While Huawei has a decent selection of laptops in its portfolio, almost all are geared toward productivity and media. The newly launched MateBook GT 14 is slightly different in that regard. Besides being productivity-focused, it's also targeted toward gamers, featuring Intel Meteor Lake chips and a gamer-centric design.
However, unlike some of the other gaming laptops you will find on the market (such as the 2024 ROG Zephyrus G14 that's on sale on Best Buy), the MateBook GT 14 doesn't sport a dedicated graphics card. The good part is that it supports eGPU, and Huawei has launched the WIKO Hi GT Cube external GPU solution for it.
This eGPU solution has a form factor similar to mini PCs, and it functions both like an external graphics card and a charger. Now, even though the Hi GT Cube has a 240W power supply unit, most of the power is for the GPU. Huawei says that the dock can offer up to 100W of power output.
As for the other specs, the WIKO Hi GT Cube packs the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT. It's the same graphics card used in eGPU solutions like the OneXGPU, GPD G1, and BoostR eGPU. However, unlike its competitors, Huawei's external graphics card solution doesn't have an OCuLink port. It has a USB4 port instead, which limits the bandwidth to 40 Gbps. For display out, there are DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1.
Pricing-wise, the WIKO Hi GT Cube retails at CNY 3,999 in China (about $552), and there's no word on global availability yet. However, given that it doesn't have an OCuLink port, you will be better off with one of the mentioned competitors if you want better performance.
