New Google 45 W charger launching soon with updated design and tweaked USB-C port positioning
It is no secret that Google has various products in the pipeline. Not only has the company itself confirmed as much last month, but various sources continue to leak promotional materials related to Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 3. Now, @MysteryLupin has shared official-looking images of Google's new wall charger, which we have embedded below.
As far as we can tell, this new accessory will replace Google's existing USB-C Charger, which is rated for up to 30 W. Supposedly, its replacement will deliver up to 45 W, although it remains to be seen whether any of the Pixel 9 generation will offer 45 W wired charging. While that may sound unusual, all but the Pixel 8 Pro have fallen short of charging at 30 W, including the Pixel 8 (curr. $498 on Amazon).
At any rate, Google has repositioned the USB Type-C port to the bottom of its new charger, which could cause issues with some outlets. Also, the 45 W charger has a rather ungainly design in its European 2-pin guise, like the 30 W charger before it. For some reason, Google has just bolted on a compatible European adapter rather than redesigning the charger for a different plug type. By contrast, the North American variant lacks pale blue accents altogether. Although pricing for the new charger has not leaked yet, we imagine it will retail for about as much as its 30 W counterpart, which Google sells for $25, £25 and €29 in the US, UK and the Eurozone, respectively.
