Leak reveals new weather app that will be exclusive to Google Pixel 9 smartphones at launch
Kamila Wojciechowska has shared initial details about a new app that will launch exclusively with the Pixel 9 series later this month. For context, Google already ring fences various apps for its Pixel smartphones, whether that be the Pixel Camera or Pixel Stand camera apps. Supposedly, this will soon extend to the Pixel Weather app, which previously had rather limited functionality.
For reference, while it was possible to install Google's Weather app on Pixel devices, Google mainly used the information that the app provided within its Clock app. According to Wojciechowska, the overhauled Pixel Weather app will come pre-installed on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, the leaker believes that the availability will eventually be extended to older Pixel smartphones, presumably like the Pixel 8 Pro (curr. $699 on Amazon).
Please note that the screenshots below are from a 'non-final version of the app'. Thus, Google may integrate changes before distributing the app publicly. For now though, it seems that the Pixel Weather app will move to a more minimalist look, eschewing the weather frog that is currently present in the weather pane of Google app. Additionally, Google has removed the weather forecaster notification that sat above its hourly forecast. Please see the screenshots below for more information.
