Alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 storms Geekbench with 30% CPU upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
A recent report claimed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would arrive with huge GPU upgrades and efficiency improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That isn't where it ends for the upcoming Qualcomm flagship chipset, if a new Geekbench listing is anything to go by, as it appears it will also deliver excellent CPU performance
While alleged Geekbench numbers of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 have leaked over the past few months, this looks to be the most concrete of the lot, and shows the Qualcomm chipset with performance surpassing the A17 Pro on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Interestingly, the listing reveals a dual-cluster setup for the chipset: two cores clocked at 4.09 GHz, and six cores at 2.78 GHz. That corroborates prior leaks claiming a peak clock speed north of 4.0 GHz.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 records a single-core score of 2884, and a multi-core score of 8840. Compared to the A17 Pro, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 appears to deliver identical single-core performance, but significantly better multi-core performance. Our tests show the Apple chipset with average scores of 2915 and 7222 in the single-core and multi-core tests respectively. Stacked versus the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, however—averaging 2226 and 6917 respectively—the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 looks to be a solid generational upgrade, with a 30% CPU performance boost.
While the numbers on show here are solid, it remains to be seen whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in this guise will be able to keep up with Apple's upcoming A18 Pro chipset. There's a significant chance, though, that the Qualcomm chipset delivers even better CPU performance than this listing shows, in its finalized form.
