The gap between gaming and productivity laptops has been narrowing in recent years, particularly through devices like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (curr. $1,449 on Amazon). Now, Huawei has introduced the MateBook GT 14, which has a few unusual elements. For reference, Huawei's latest laptop weighs 1.49 kg and is 15.3~18.4 mm thick thanks to its wedge-like design.
At launch, Huawei has decided to offer the MateBook GT 14 with a choice between three Intel Meteor Lake-H processors, as well as 1 TB or 2 TB of storage and 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM. Specifically, the laptop can be configured with the Core Ultra 5 125H, Core Ultra 7 155H or the Core Ultra 9 185H, the latter of which Huawei has overclocked to provide a 75 W TDP under continuous load or 115 W in short bursts.
Moreover, the MateBook GT 14 finds itself with a 70 Wh battery, plus a 14.2-inch OLED display that outputs at 2,880 x 1,920 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio. On top of that, the mid-sized display delivers up to 1,000 nits of brightness and a 144 Hz refresh rate while supporting ten-point touch inputs. Furthermore, Huawei has also created a dedicated eGPU that connects to the laptop over Thunderbolt 4; please see our accompanying launch article for more information about Huawei's first eGPU.
On top of that, Huawei has included two USB Type-A ports, an SD card reader and a full-sized HDMI 2.1 port for connecting to an external display that lacks USB Type-C input. Currently, the MateBook GT 14 is exclusive to China, where it starts at CNY 7,499 (~$1,040) with a Core Ultra 5 125H processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Alternatively, Huawei offers the laptop in three more powerful configurations up to the Core Ultra 9 185H, 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD for CNY 10,999 (~$1,526). Although there is no word yet on whether the MateBook GT 14 will be available internationally, Huawei tends to release its laptops outside its home market eventually.
