Deal | Google Pixel 8a price drops to record low level on Amazon
For many users, buying a flagship smartphone doesn’t make financial sense, especially in 2024 where you can get a quality mid-range device without breaking the bank. Take, for instance, the Pixel 8a, Google’s latest A-series phone which packs the same Tensor G3 SoC as the flagship Pixel 8 while bringing features like IP67 water and dust resistance, Qi wireless charging, a 4,500 mAh battery, and a 120 Hz AMOLED display all for an MSRP of $499.
Add to this the camera quality that has always been the hallmark of the Google Pixel A-series and you can see why the mid-range Pixel 8a is such a compelling device.
So, if you are on the lookout for a new smartphone and don’t want to spend a ton of money, going the mid-range route makes a lot of sense. To that end, the Google Pixel 8a price has now dropped to only $399 on Amazon, a $100 discount over the list price.
With the discount in place, the Google Pixel 8a becomes a strong contender for your cash as the device has a lot to offer.
For starters, the Pixel 8a runs on the latest Tensor G3 SoC from Google which allows the phone to be quite swift in normal operation. The SoC also enables image processing that Google phones are known for as well as AI features like object removal. While not the fastest, the Tensor G3 also allows the Pixel 8a to run games like Genshin Impact without any hitches.
Unfortunately, we noted during our testing that the Pixel 8a throttles rather heavily under extreme load. So if long gaming sessions are a priority, you’ll be better served by other devices.
Moving on to the shooting experience, the Pixel 8a packs a dual-camera setup on the back and a single 13 MP selfie shooter upfront. The back cameras include a 64 MP main shooter with OIS and a 13 MP ultrawide camera with a 120° FoV. Quality-wise, all three cameras perform well with the main sensor putting up a strong showing in low-light conditions.
Similarly, the FHD Actua display on the Pixel 8a is also quite good with a 6.1-inch diagonal, 430 PPI of pixel density, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and 2,000 nits of peak brightness. Since the screen is OLED, the contrast is infinite and so, combined with the high brightness, the Pixel 8a will deliver a solid multimedia experience.
Finally, although it takes a while to charge, the Pixel 8a provides decent battery life as we measured a runtime of more than 13 hours in our Wi-Fi websurfing test.
