The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL might be the best Android phones Google has to offer right now, but there’s a solid argument to be made for the last-gen Pixel 8 Pro, especially now that it has received a massive 40% discount on Amazon.
For a limited time, you can pick up a Pixel 8 Pro for just $599 on Amazon—a whopping $400 discount from its usual price of $999. We’ve seen the 8 Pro drop below $700 multiple times, but this latest price slash is by far the biggest we’ve tracked on Amazon—the previous lowest was $624. It’s a great deal, no doubt, but it’s a shame it’s restricted to just one configuration: the 128GB model in Bay. If you want the Porcelain color, you’ll have to pay $50 more.
If all you want is a decent Android flagship with excellent camera performance, a clean, no-frills software experience, and a big OLED display, you really can’t go wrong with the Pixel 8 Pro. Yes, the Pixel 9 Pro is a more refined phone, packing a brighter display, a sexier design, and a bunch of exclusive AI tricks powered by the new Tensor G4 chip. But there’s not much separating the 8 Pro and 9 Pro when it comes to day-to-day performance, rear cameras, software support, and battery life. According to our in-depth performance analysis, the Tensor G4 chipset in the 9 Pro only offers a modest 5 to 10% performance bump over the 8 Pro across various popular benchmarks. Image quality from rear cameras is also pretty similar, with both phones sharing the same 50MP f/1.7 main shooter and 48MP f/2.8 periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. You’re also not missing out on software support, as the Pixel 8 Pro is promised to receive seven years of Android platform updates and security patches, just like the 9 Pro.
