It looks like Google is in a hurry to clear up the inventory of older Pixel phones ahead of the arrival of the Pixel 10 series. Google Store is currently offering a flat 40% discount on the unlocked Pixel 8 Pro, bringing its price down from $999 to $599. With Google’s critically acclaimed camera system onboard and 5 years of software support still left in the tank, the Pixel 8 Pro remains a solid option for anyone looking for a flagship experience without paying top dollar.
On top of the steep discount, Google is also throwing in a free Pixel Watch 2 LTE (worth $300) and a Pixel 8 Pro case (worth $35) "while supplies last". This is easily one of the best smartphone deals we’ve seen in a while. All four colors are in stock at the time of writing this article, but you’re limited to just 128GB configuration, which is a bummer.
The Pixel 8 Pro might not be the coolest kid on the block anymore, but in a world of predictable smartphone launch cycles and incremental hardware improvements, Google’s 2023 flagship holds up remarkably well. You get a big 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP + 48MP + 48MP triple camera system powered by Google’s stellar image processing, and a super-clean Android experience peppered with AI smarts, all wrapped in a premium aluminum-and-glass body.
For the same price, you can get the newer Pixel 9 with a brighter display, a sleeker design, and a more powerful Tensor G4 chipset. That said, you're hardly going to notice any performance difference in day to day use. Our testing shows the Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9 offering only a modest 5 to 10 percent performance boost over the Tensor G3-powered Pixel 8 Pro. Not to mention, the Pixel 8 Pro also has an additional telephoto lens, which the base Pixel 9 lacks.
As for future-proofing, the Pixel 8 Pro is guaranteed to receive Android OS updates through 2030, meaning five more years of new features and monthly security patches. All in all, if you’re looking for a flagship Android phone that nails the basics, this is a pretty solid deal.
