Exclusive | Manufacturer confirms new Nvidia RTX 40-series eGPU with unreleased M-series GPU
AMD pretty much has total control over the niche market of affordable and portable eGPUs. Almost all the recently launched compact eGPU options come with Radeon RX 7000M-series graphics cards. More specifically, you will find the Radeon RX 7600M or 7600M XT in them. Nvidia, on the other hand, does have some presence, but there's none targeting the sub-$1,000 price range.
Take the Asus ROG XG Mobile, for example. The latest model features the Nvidia RTX 4090 laptop GPU, and it costs $1,999.99. In comparison, the first-gen OneXGPU with Radeon RX 7600M XT goes for $699.99. BoostR eGPU with RX 7600M graphics card was introduced at a slightly lower price tag, with the early bird price starting at $499.
However, it seems that Nvidia will soon be entering this niche market with a new RTX 40-series M GPU. More precisely, in a one-on-one conversation with an AOOSTAR representative, we learned that the company plans to release a new eGPU with "Nvidia RTX 4060M."
Given that Nvidia has yet to announce 40-series M GPUs, we asked whether the "RTX 4060M" is the same as the RTX 4060 laptop GPU that's already present in many laptops. The representative reaffirmed that it's a different variant. Now, as the RTX 4060 is a relatively affordable option from Nvidia, we're almost certain that the "RTX 4060M" eGPU will be rivaling the likes of GPD G1 or the upcoming OneXGPU 2 in terms of price.
Another key detail that the AOOSTAR representative said is that the external graphics card solution with what is claimed to be a new M-series GPU is already being developed. However, the launch of this eGPU is set for the end of this year, and AOOSTAR won't be able to introduce it to the market before the RTX 5000 series is out. This suggests that Nvidia may announce the Blackwell graphics card lineup later this year, but we can't confirm this unless we get more concrete info regarding it.
