AG01 Starship Graphics Dock: New eGPU dock from Ayaneo released with USB4 and OCuLink for lower than expected launch pricing
A few months have passed since Ayaneo, stylised AYANEO, revealed its intentions to bring its first eGPU to Indiegogo. Surprisingly, the company has side-stepped the crowdfunding platform altogether by offering the AG01 Starship Graphics Dock directly on its website instead.
To recap, Ayaneo's eGPU is much like the GPD G1 and OneXPlayer OneXGPU (curr. $699.95 on Amazon) insofar as it utilises an AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT laptop GPU that cannot be upgraded. Thus, the AG01 has 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM at its disposal, 32 Compute Units based on AMD's RDNA 3 architecture and up to a 120 W total graphics power (TGP).
In other words, the AG01 will not be as powerful as the OneXGPU 2, which features the newer Radeon RX 7800M. As the specification sheet below shows, the AG01 contains modern ports like DisplayPort 2.0, HDMI 2.1, USB4 and OCuLink. On top of that, the eGPU has an M.2 2280 slot that supports PCIe 3.0 transfer speeds and a Gigabit Ethernet connection.
According to its product listing, all orders placed during this 'pre-sale' period should begin shipping at the end of November 2024. Additionally, we should point out that while the eGPU is available for $599 at the time of writing, Ayaneo implies that the AG01 Starship Graphics Dock will rise to $699 after its undefined pre-sale period is over. Also, it remains to be seen whether Ayaneo plans to offer the eGPU through Indiegogo at a later date too.
