Peladn Link S-2 debuts as cheaper OCuLink eGPU dock than Minisforum DEG1
Peladn has introduced a new eGPU dock with a design that's very similar to the Minisforum DEG1. As a matter of fact, the external GPU dock even has the same specs as Minisforum's offering. However, it's cheaper, currently at $86.72 on AliExpress.
The DEG1, on the other hand, launched at $99. Given that these two are identical, just like Minisforum's offering, the Link S-2 brings an OCuLink port, which makes the eGPU dock a better pick than those with a USB4 port, thanks to the 64 Gbps bandwidth.
Peladn's Link S-2 also has a PCIe x16 slot, and thanks to the open-air design, it can hold pretty much any graphics card, including a full-fledged Nvidia RTX 4090. There's a 24-pin ATX connector to power the GPU, but unlike the Aoostar AG01, it doesn't have a built-in PSU. It doesn't have any built-in USB hub or M.2 slots either, which is something that a couple of other eGPUs offer.
So, the Peladn Link S-2 is strictly for adding an external GPU to your setup. However, note that there are no USB4 ports. That means the eGPU dock will only be compatible with systems that feature an OCuLink port (OneXPlayer M1 curr. $699.95 on Amazon).
As for the design and specs being similar to the Minisforum DEG1, this is something that's quite common among Chinese manufacturers. In fact, you can even come across other not-so-popular brands that are offering the same thing but under a different name.
