Early OnePlus 13 unboxing confirms flat display and design changes ahead of launch
OnePlus seems to be entirely unable to keep the OnePlus 13 under wraps ahead of the official launch of the phone, with previous leaks and rumours exposing much of the new flagship's design and specifications. Now, it looks like we have confirmation on many of those design elements, as OnePlus China has released an unboxing video for the OnePlus 13 ahead of the planned October 31 release in China.
The OnePlus 13 in the video is running ColorOS, so we don't get to see any of the fancy new bells and whistles that come with OxygenOS 15, but it does give us a good look at the hardware. The biggest exterior hardware changes for the OnePlus 13 come from the display, which has now seemingly eliminated all curves from its edges, and the back panel, which now has a simpler aesthetic and potentially an even larger camera bump, although without the large metal plate under the actual camera disc, this time.
While the design changes are subtle, the OnePlus community will likely appreciate the diminished curves at the edges of the OnePlus 13's display, since curved display edges can be a bit of a usability issue, leading to accidental touch inputs — unintentional back gestures worst of all.
Given the size of the OnePlus 13's packaging, it also looks like we can safely assume that a charger and USB cable will still be included in the box, at least in some markets, which will be welcome news for many. While the OnePlus 13 launches on October 31 to its Chinese market, it's still unclear when exactly the new flagship will arrive in international markets, but it looks like an early 2025 launch is likely.
