AYANEO AG01 Starship: RX 7600M XT external GPU getting ready to launch on Indiegogo with RGB and retro sci-fi design
AYANEO teased back in May the upcoming external GPU, the AG01: Starship. Not to be confused with the AOOSTAR AG01 E-GPU dock (which doesn't include a GPU), the Starship carries a retro inspired design with exhaust ports mimicking the boosters on a space ship. The dock has a range of expansion ports including two DisplayPort 2.0, two HDMI 2.1 as well as OCuLink, USB 4, RJ45 and an extra USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. Not to mention also having a toolless M.2 SSD expansion with room for up to 2280 sized drives.
The AG01 Starship joins the OneXGPU and the GPD G1, offering the same GPU and a slightly modified port selection. However, unlike the GPD G1 the Startship AG01 can be set to either a 100 or 120 watt TDP. Ultimately there isn't a great deal to differentiate between these products other than the minor tweaks to ports and the added TDP over the G1. AYANEO is likely hoping that the retro inspired starship design and "romantic" RGB will tempt buyers over existing products already on the market. Equally, if they can undercut the competition on price this could be a compelling purchase for those looking for a portable external GPU dock to pair with an OCuLink or USB 4 handheld or laptop. Hopefully not too difficult given that GPD G1 is selling on Amazon.com for the eye watering price of $799.
The Radeon RX 7600M XT is already getting pretty long in the tooth, with the GPD G1 having been on the market for well over a year and the upcoming OneXPlayer OneXGPU 2 featuring a yet to be released Radeon 7800M GPU not far away from retail. For AYANEO, it may be a case of too little too late.
AYANEO posted on X this morning (Aug 16) that the pre-launch campaign is now live on Indiegogo and you can sign up for updates here.
