A paid software called Lossless Scaling on Steam has just been updated, and it now can offer up to 4x FPS boost with frame generation tech. It can also upscale games from a lower resolution, making it stand as a good option to get a bit extra performance out of gaming handhelds and relatively low-end systems.

While the Radeon 780M found in pretty much all the modern gaming handhelds is capable of playing AAA games, you would often need to use low or medium graphics settings to get a good experience. AMD's recently added FSR 3.1, when combined with Frame Generation, is a great solution for this.

However, these upscaling and fake frame insertion techs are not natively available in all the games. For such titles, as demonstrated by ETA Prime, Lossless Scaling stands as a good option. It's a paid software that you can install from Steam, and it can upscale games and generate additional frames, offering a much better experience in lower-end systems and gaming handhelds.

The software has broad compatibility, supporting Nvidia, AMD, and Intel Arc GPUs. It also works on OpenGL, Vulkan, and DirectX games, making it a good solution to upscale and add generated frames on titles that don't have native support for these techs.

Worth noting that Lossless Scaling currently only works on Windows. The software also requires you to run the games in borderless windowed or windowed mode. As for how well it works, ETA Prime showcased ROG Ally X (Z1 Extreme ROG Ally curr. $499.99 on Best Buy) running Cyberpunk 2077 at nearly 60 FPS with Ray Tracing Ultra preset, boosted from about 30 FPS.
