Trailer for the new Tomb Raider Netflix adaptation leads to divided opinions in the community
Powerhouse Animation Studios is known for its success with the Castlevania series and officially announced in October 2023 to work on a Tomb Raider animated series. "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft" is set after the reboot trilogy of the games and aims to bridge the gap between them and the original games.
The plot of the series revolves around Lara Croft, who has left her friends behind to take on dangerous solo adventures after the events of the Survivor series. But a stolen Chinese artifact forces her to return to Croft Manor and face her past.
The series is directed by Tasha Huo, who previously worked on "The Witcher: Blood Origin" and "Red Sonja". The voice cast includes Hayley Atwell as Lara Croft, Earl Baylon as Jonah Maiava and Allen Maldonado as Zip. This role is particularly familiar for Baylon, as he has already voiced Jonah in the games.
A new teaser trailer was released on August 19, showing Lara in various action scenes and giving fans an even deeper insight into the series:

The anime style of the series shows clear parallels to Castlevania and is reminiscent of classics such as Avatar: The Legend of Korra. With around 5,100 likes compared to 3,500 dislikes and many critical comments on the animation and the portrayal of Lara Croft, the trailer has led to mixed reactions on YouTube.
On Reddit, the mood is rather optimistic. Some users praise Lara's portrayal as a tough fighter, while others rate the series as solid, if not outstanding. Fans will soon be able to form their own opinion. As revealed in the announcement trailer from June, "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft" is set to premiere on Netflix on October 10.
