The Sims competitor inZOI delights thousands with free character editor - over 18,000 players active at the same time

On August 21, 2024, just in time for the start of Gamescom, the inZOI Character Studio was released for free on Steam, a comprehensive character editor that allows gamers to create their own "Zois" before the game even launches. Since then, the tool has attracted an unexpectedly high number of players, reaching 18,657 concurrent users on August 24th, according to SteamDB.
The reactions on Steam are predominantly positive. With almost 1,000 reviews, the editor is rated as "Very Positive" with a rating of 81%. One player commented: "The mere fact that a character creator is better than the latest installment of a certain franchise speaks volumes" - a clear reference to the competition from The Sims.
Also on Reddit, many users express their hope that inZOI has the potential to become a true competitor to The Sims, especially since other projects such as Life By You have recently been discontinued.
Expected to be available only until August 26
The inZOI Character Studio will initially only be available until August 26th. In view of its great success, however, it is conceivable that the developers could extend the period. However, this remains speculation.
