GPD is plotting to introduce a new compact or ultra portable laptop, which it will release later this year as the GPD Pocket 4. Not only will the Pocket 4 pack a 144 Hz and 8.8-inch display like the ONEXPLAYER X1 Mini and Lenovo Legion Go, but it will also feature an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU paired with fast LPDDR5-7500 RAM.

GPD has quietly detailed another new Windows device, two months after refreshing the Pocket 3 with a new processor option. This time, it has revealed the Pocket 4, which should be considered more of a mini laptop than a gaming handheld. Although this could also apply to other GPD devices like the Win Mini, the Pocket 4 lacks a built-in gamepad of any kind.

Nonetheless, GPD has equipped the Pocket 4 with what could well be the display that underpins both the ONEXPLAYER X1 Mini and Lenovo Legion Go (curr. $509.99 - refurbished on Amazon). While GPD does not acknowledge as much, the Pocket 4's display specifications of an 8.8-inch IPS panel with touch input, a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel native resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness are all matches for the panels inside the ONEXPLAYER X1 Mini and Legion Go.

However, this panel sits within a rotating hinge in the Pocket 4, which allows it to operate in multiple poses. The Pocket 4 is one of the first devices to sport an AMD Strix Point APU, though. Specifically, GPD has settled on the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, a 12-core and 24-thread part that has up to a 28 W TDP and a Radeon 890M iGPU. Incidentally, GPD has shared some fairly questionable performance numbers for this APU, full coverage of which we have provided separately.

On top of that, the Pocket 4 finds itself with a 44.8 Wh battery, LPDDR5-7500 RAM, an M.2 2280 SSD and connectivity that includes a modular port for which GPD has designed KVM, LTE modem, RS-232 and SD card slot adaptors. For context, the company is also preparing to release the Duo, its first attempt at creating a dual-display laptop. While the GPD Duo should go on sale later this month, the GPD Pocket 4 is not scheduled for release until October 2024.
