GPD has officially announced the release date for the DUO OLED laptop, set for August 2024. Unveiled earlier this year, the GPD DUO packs dual OLED displays on top of one another and is powered by AMD's Ryzen AI 9 370HX CPU with the Radeon 890M iGPU, promising impressive performance.

Earlier this year, GPD teased a uniquely designed dual-screen laptop with AMD internals. Later, the company lifted the curtains off this device, officially named the GPD DUO, and shared its full list of specifications. Now, GPD has confirmed the DUO's launch date, which has been set for August 2024.

The GPD DUO's most striking feature is undoubtedly the dual OLED display setup. This form factor is quite unusual, with the secondary display positioned on top of the main display. This allows for a conventional full-sized physical keyboard, unlike certain other dual-screen laptops which have to push the keyboard downwards to accommodate the secondary display, effectively eliminating the palm rest area. The OLED displays are pretty impressive, both being 13.3 inches in size with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, providing a decent pixel density. GPD claims 100% of DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB coverage, but that remains to be verified through independent testing.

As for the specifications, the GPD DUO rocks AMD's latest and greatest Ryzen 9 AI 370HX with 12 cores (4 Zen5 + 8 Zen5c) paired with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X-7200 MT/s memory. The Radeon 890M iGPU handles the graphics, which comes impressively close to entry-level dGPUs such as the RTX 3050 laptop. For users with higher graphical demands, an OCuLink port is present for fast eGPU connections (8 GB/s).

In terms of connectivity, the GPD DUO features a healthy list of ports, which includes two UBS-C ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card slot (UHS-II), two USB-A (5Gbps) ports, a USB 4 (40Gbps) port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless connectivity includes support for WiFi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.3. There is no word on pricing yet, but considering the specifications, the GPD DUO is likely to be priced at a premium. It's primary competitor, the Zenbook Duo, is currently available at $1,499 on Amazon US for the Core Ultra 7 version.
