Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 desktop graphics cards might not launch in 2024
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 dropped in September 2022. Before that a slew of leaks shed light on what Ada Lovelace has in store for gamers. This time around, there isn't nearly as much information as last time. Noted X leaker Kopite7Kimi, who has many accurate predictions under their belt, now says we might not see GeForce RTX 5000 SKUs until next year.
In an X post, Kimi says, "I think we won't see RTX 50 until CES.", making Blackwell one of the first dGPUs to launch at CES in a long time. Then again, there's no need for Nvidia to rush its next-gen graphics cards because AMD has no plans to launch high-end RDNA 4 models this time. Plus, the recent surge in AI requires Team Green to prioritize its enterprise-centric offerings over gaming SKUs.
Previously, Kopite7Kimi stated the GeForce RTX 5080 would be the first to launch, followed by the RTX 5090 and others. The top-spec GB202 GPU could launch with a 512-bit wide bus and GDDR7 memory. The latter will also spill over to some laptop SKUs. Unfortunately, mid-range and entry-level laptop GPUs will still be stuck with 8 GB VRAM- woefully insufficient for modern-day games.
