Humble Games lays off employees, but will not be closed down
Humble is probably best known to most people for the Humble Bundle, a monthly digital game bundle where a portion of the proceeds are donated to charity. However, the company has also been active as a games publisher since 2017 as Humble Games and has already published 49 indie games - including better-known titles such as Slay the Spire or A Hat in Time. Apparently, however, things are not going as well as they should at Humble Games. In a press release dated July 23, the company announced that Humble Games is restructuring:
"In these challenging economic times for indie game publishing, Humble Games has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure our operations. [...] We are acutely aware of the profound impact this decision has on our team members at Humble Games and deeply empathize with everyone affected. [...] We are committed to navigating this transition with as much empathy and understanding as possible."
Ex-employee says Humble Games will close completely
It is clear from the press release that the restructuring will also result in redundancies. However, there is no mention of how many employees will have to go. On LinkedIn however, former Humble Games employee Chris Radley has spoken out, claiming that Humble Games will not be restructured, but closed down completely - and that all employees will lose their jobs.
As Redley explains, Humble Games is said to have been sold to an external consulting firm. It is therefore still unclear whether the games publisher is only being restructured or whether it is being closed down completely. However, according to the press release, the Humble Bundle will be available as usual.
