The group Meticulous Research now estimates that the AR market will be worth no less than $210.1 billion in 2031, with an arguably impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34%.
The digitally-enhanced reality's equipment and use-cases have potential to take a role in a variety of spheres, those of healthcare, education, entertainment and advertising included. However, AR gaming has specifically been called out in this new report as capable of generating up to 33% of this projected growth over the next 7 years.
Meticulous Research's new estimates do seem heavily based on the fact Apple has now gotten into AR to the extent it is now trying to re-brand it to "spatial computing"; then again, the first-gen Vision Pro has been found wanting in terms of sales and popularity by now.
Similarly, the less said about the PS VR may be the better for these conclusions.
Nevertheless, other big players such as Qualcomm, Google, Meta and Samsung are still there to prop the industry up if necessary, not to mention increasingly well-known OEMs such as Vuzix, XREAL, Lenovo and Xiaomi. Accordingly, reality may indeed be most likely to be more and more augmented in the future.
