Lenovo first showcased the ThinkBook TGX eGPU enclosure back at CES this year. While the company has been quiet about it ever since then, the GPU solution has now launched in China at CNY 1,499 (around $206). It uses a proprietary version of OcuLink, making the external graphics card dock capable of offering 64 Gbps of throughput.

The Lenovo ThinkBook TGX Graphics Card Expansion Dock is now available in China. It's currently priced at CNY 1,499, which is about $206. Worth noting that this price is only for the eGPU enclosure. So, you will need to purchase the graphics card and power supply separately.

Even so, the price for the external graphics card solution is good, especially considering the fact that it brings OCuLink. Of course, Lenovo doesn't explicitly say that it's OCuLink. Instead, the company refers to it as TGX, but as PCMag notes, it's basically a proprietary version of the same thing.

With that, the Lenovo TGX interface can deliver up to 64 Gbps of data throughput. That's 1.5x higher than what you would get from a Thunderbolt 4 eGPU enclosure. Although Intel has already announced Thunderbolt 5, which promises to deliver 80 Gbps of bandwidth, we are yet to see laptop manufacturers adopting it.

Nonetheless, Lenovo says that the TGX eGPU enclosure is for the recently launched 2024 ThinkBook laptops that come with the proprietary interface. However, according to Chinese reviewers (such as this reviewer on Bilibili), the compatible laptops work with OCuLink external graphics card solutions. So, the dock should also work with other systems that come with an OCuLink port (such as the Minisforum UM780 XTX mini PC that's available on Amazon).

As for what graphics cards the ThinkBook TGX can hold, Lenovo says that Nvidia graphics cards that are up to 72 mm in thickness and 358 mm in length will work. That means you have multiple options to pair this external GPU enclosure with. You aren't even limited to a specific power requirement, as the dock doesn't come with a built-in power supply. But the company does recommend using an 850W PSU.

That said, Lenovo has yet to reveal details of global pricing and availability. However, as the company has already showcased the ThinkBook TGX at CES this year, it should soon land in the international markets.
