Repairable Lenovo ThinkPad T14 G5 & slim ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 launch in the US
Roughly two months ago at MWC, Lenovo revealed the newest iterations of the productivity-focused ThinkPad T series. Alongside the bigger ThinkPad T16 G3, the new Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 embraces a repairable design with upgradable RAM. There also is the new ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, the thinner, more premium version of Lenovo's bestselling business line.
The two 14 inch models have now launched in the US webstore. As usual with Lenovo, the base price at launch in the store is quite high, as the manufacturer usually puts in huge discounts only a few weeks after launching new devices. Thus, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 costs at least $2,559, while the base price of the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 sits at $2,729.
Both ThinkPad laptops are redesigns compared with the ThinkPad T14 G4 and ThinkPad T14s G4. Both have smaller screen bezels, a new black debossed ThinkPad logo and camera bump, as well as a redesigned keyboard with tactile markings and switched FN and Ctrl keys.
At launch, both business laptops are not configurable. The available fixed configurations are also limited, as only Core Ultra U series CPUs are available - Meteor Lake H is listed in the spec sheet, but not orderable yet. Also, the screen resolution is limited to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), with the high-end 2.8K 120 Hz OLED screen still missing in action. The same is true for special options like WiFi 7 or 5G.
