Lenovo has refreshed the ThinkPad P16v with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, up to an 8 GB RTX 3000 Ada Generation workstation GPU, and a new 400-nit display option. However, aside from these notable internal updates, the rest of the laptop is pretty much identical to last year’s machine.

Lenovo first introduced the ThinkPad P16v last year with Intel Raptor Lake vPro processors, up to an RTX A2000 GPU, and up to a 16-inch 800-nit WQUXGA panel. For this year, Lenovo is sticking to the same chassis but is introducing a handful of important updates.

For starters, the ThinkPad P16v i Gen 2can be configured with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 3000 Ada Generation GPU. While the Core Ultra 9 185H doesn’t bring a performance update over the Raptor Lake Core i9 processors it is replacing, the CPU does pack a much more capable iGPU alongside a fast NPU and efficiency improvements. The big performance upgrade, however, will be provided by the RTX 3000 Ada Generation GPU with its 20 TFLOPs of compute vs 14.5 TFLOPs of the RTX 2000 Ada, the board that could be found in the top-end ThinkPad P16v Gen 1 SKU (Buy it now on Amazon).

Additionally, the ThinkPad P16v G2 can boast up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600 memory, and 4 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage with two 2 TB drives operating in RAID 0/1.

Moving on, the Gen 2 ThinkPad P16v also brings a new 400-nit, 100% sRGB display option to the market. Users can now choose between an 800-nit UHD+ panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, a 400-nit 100% sRGB option with an FHD+ resolution, and two FHD+ panels with 300-nit 45% NTSC options with and without touch input.

Aside from these upgrades, one less Type-A port, and the lack of the red strip at the back, the ThinkPad P16v G2 is almost identical to the last generation model with the same chassis, port selection, 90 Wh battery size, 65.00 x 262.00 x 24.66 mm dimensions, and 2.22 kg (4.9 lbs) starting weight.

Per Lenovo, the ThinkPad P16v Gen 2 will be available in May 2024 with a starting price tag of €2,140 ($2,289.24 at the current exchange rate).
